At the end of First World War, Wilhelm Humpert I. laid the foundation stone of his metal goods factory at the heart of the small industrial community of Wickede in the Lanfer valley. The production programme of the HUMPERT workshop, which was still very small at the time, consisted of wooden bicycle handlebars, foot pumps and hand pumps as well as luggage carriers. Until the year 1923 turnover and earnings were modest. However, when production was switched five years later to the manufacture of metal handlebars the desired upswing took place: after the establishment of a galvanising department and the expansion of the locksmith’s, grinding and bending shop HUMPERT began with the specialised production of handlebars, including galvanic surface plating. By the year 1930 the initial 12 workers had risen to a total of nearly 100.

At the start of 1998 new senior partner Willi Humpert took over the management of this traditional family company, which was founded in 1918 and is now in the hands of the fourth generation. In the years that followed the company was successfully restructured and given a strategic direction for the future. In the process the core operations of tubing components and surface finishing technology were brought in line with the requirements of the market. 150 employees working now for HUMPERT.

From the beginning, HUMPERT produced and developed bicycle components, especially handlebars. Today it produces millions bike handlebars per year and distributes many other bike components.
